We are pleased to connect Jumar residents with two distinct, high-value internship programs from the University of Melbourne and Monash University.
1. University of Melbourne: SCOUT Program
Think of SCOUT teams as your company’s "mini-consulting" firm. This program connects you with a tailored, multidisciplinary team of four high-performing Masters students for a structured 12-week engagement.
- How it works: Your team of four students (from faculties such as Science, Engineering, Business, and Arts) works on a specific company challenge for ~600–800 hours.
- Best for:
- Market and customer insights,
- Technology assessments,
- Data analysis,
- Software creation,
- Financial modelling, and
- Process improvements, including AI and automation (or whatever the company needs).
- First access to a pipeline of graduating Masters level talent, PR opportunities related to the project (see example recent good news story)
- Potential for deeper access to the University of Melbourne including world-class researchers, R&D, grant collaborations, infrastructure and co-location.
- Timeline: Project scoping takes place by October, with internships beginning the following March.

2. Monash University: Industry Experience Internship Program
The Monash Pharmaceutical Sciences Placement program provides flexible access to talented students across various disciplines, including Pharmaceutical Science, Biomedical Science, and Engineering.
- How it works: Monash manages the end-to-end placement process, including student sourcing, shortlisting, and onboarding, making it a low-administration, "hassle-free" option for startups. Placements range from 72 to 360 hours with five annual intakes.
- Best for:
- Conduct research and analysis, including market mapping, literature reviews, and identifying trends or opportunities

- Support product development and innovation, translating user or stakeholder insights into actionable recommendations
- Engage in stakeholder communication, such as customer discovery interviews and professional outreach
- Assist with strategic tasks, including business development, reporting, and presentation preparation
- Contribute to technical or lab-based work (where relevant), including experimentation, evaluation, and documentation
- Demonstrate strong soft skills, particularly being proactive, adaptable, organised, and able to work in fast-paced environments
